AI Olympiad in Bulgaria to host 160 students from 35 countries

The International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) will take place from August 9th to 15th, 2024, in the city of Burgas in Bulgaria. This inaugural event will gather over 160 students from 35 countries, who will compete in creating, utilizing, and advancing artificial intelligence technologies.

Each team consists of four students selected through competitive national contests, with each country allowed to send up to two teams. The competition will unfold in two rounds: the scientific round, where teams will develop new AI models, and the practical round, where they will work with existing AI technologies.

The Olympiad will focus on three critical areas of artificial intelligence: machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. Google stands as the general partner and leading sponsor, supported by the Ministry of Education and Science, Burgas Municipality, and MBZUAI.

Throughout the event, students will engage in debates about the future of artificial intelligence and its ethical implications. They will also participate in hands-on workshops led by leading researchers, academics, and entrepreneurs, enriching their knowledge and skills in the field.

“The creation of the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) is a natural continuation of the Bulgarian tradition in the field of international scientific competitions. The International Olympiad in Informatics IOI in 1989, the International Olympiad in Linguistics IOL in 2003 and the European Youth Olympiad in Informatics eJOI in 2017 were founded in Bulgaria. IOAI is the next step in our ambition to be among the leaders in research and education. In addition to the competitions, we will also invite leading universities from all over the world, who will demonstrate their latest achievements and present students with opportunities to continue their education in the field of artificial intelligence,” Alexander Velinov, main initiator and chairman of the initiative committee of IOAI, tells IT Logs.

The participating countries and territories include Australia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Egypt, Estonia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Isle of Man, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United States, and Vietnam.
